The town, which is full of bustling activity, meanders down to the picturesque wharf which features restaurants, Ty Warner Sea Center (kids love it), wine tasting, candy, ice cream, and gift shops. (Boat rides are available from the wharf.) Every Sunday an arts/crafts show is held in front of the wharf entrance. Just south of the wharf is a park with a merry-go-round.
The magnificent botanical garden embraces winding paths, huge trees, and bridges crossing over the creek. Nearby are many wonderful easy hiking trails. Some follow along streams and lead to waterfalls and swimming holes.
